Literacy Council of Buncombe County Volunteer Opportunity

Literacy tutoring is one of the most rewarding volunteer experiences you can have. When you help someone learn to read or to speak English, you enable that individual to take advantage of a new world of opportunities – at home, at work, and in the community.

Last year over 200 volunteers donated more than 14,000 hours of service – nearly 40 hours of volunteer service per day! – and succeeded in educating over 300 adult students in our Adult Education Program and our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program.

The Literacy Council provides our volunteer tutors with the professional training, materials, and ongoing support they need to teach basic reading, writing, math and English language skills. You do not need prior teaching experience – nor do you need to speak a foreign language – to volunteer.

In addition to tutors, we always need volunteers who contribute their enthusiasm, experience, and expertise to support office administration, community outreach and advocacy, marketing communications, and event planning.

We have a volunteer opportunity that’s right for you!
